Thir small peculiar, though from human sight
And sowd with Starrs the Heavn thick as a field:
In the Suns Orb, made porous to receive
With thir bright Luminaries that Set and Rose, [ 385 ]
Invested with bright Rayes, jocond to run
His mirror, with full face borrowing her Light
Spangling the Hemisphere: then first adornd
And God made two great Lights, great for thir use
From him, for other light sh藏书网e needed none
So Eevn and Morn recorded the Third Day.
In thir vicissitude, and rule the Night,
To illuminate the Earth, and rule the Day [ 350 ]
His Longitude through Heavns high rode: the gray
Transplanted from her cloudie Shrine, and placd [ 360 ]
First in his East the glorious Lamp was seen, [ 370 ]
For of Celestial Bodies first the Sun
Reptil with Spawn abundant, living Soule:
To give L九_九_藏_书_网ight on the Earth; and it was so. [ 345 ]
Again th Almightie spake: Let there be Lights
The less by Night alterne: and made the Starrs,
And drink the liquid Light, firm to retaine
Regent of Day, and all th Horizon round
Her gatherd beams, great Palace now of Light.
To Man, the greater to have rule by Day,
And Light from Darkness to divide. God saw,

Gl藏书网obose, and every magnitude of Starrs,
And set them in the Firmament of Heavn
Till night, then in the East her turn she shines, [ 380 ]
High in th expanse of Heaven to divide [ 340 ]
With thousand thousand Starres, that then appeerd
And let Fowle flie above the Earth, with wings
Shedding sweet influence: less bright the Moon, [ 375 ]
Repairing, in thir goldn Urns draw Light, [ 365 ]
Displayd on the 九*九*藏*书*网opn Firmament of Heavn. [ 390 ]
Of Light by farr the greater part he took,
Hither as to thir Fountain other Starrs
In that aspect, and still that distance keepes
And let them be for Lights as I ordaine
And hence the Morning Planet guilds her horns;
Thir Office in the Firmament of Heavn
For Seasons, and for Dayes, and circling Years,
And God said, let the Waters generate
A mightie Spheare he framd, unliwww.99lib•netghtsom first, [ 355 ]
The Day from Night; and let them be for Signes,
But opposite in leveld West was set
Though of Ethereal Mould: then formd the Moon
With thousand lesser Lights dividual holds,
Dawn, and the Pleiades before him dancd
By tincture or reflection they augment
Revolvd on Heavns great Axle, and her Reign
Surveying his great Work, that it was good:
Glad Eevning and glad Morn crownd the fourth day.
